Cost guide
Bathroom remodel cost in Los Angeles.
Bathroom remodels in the LA area typically run $10,000 to $100,000 or more. Bathrooms are small, so the swing usually comes down to how much the layout changes and how far the finishes go, not square footage.
Three rough tiers
Same layout. New vanity, toilet, fixtures, and tile over an existing footprint. No walls or plumbing lines moved.
New tile throughout, an upgraded shower or tub, better fixtures, and some plumbing changes — swapping a tub for a walk-in shower, for example.
A full gut, layout changes, premium tile and fixtures, custom vanities, and sometimes an expanded footprint. Very high-end finishes can run past this range.
What actually moves the price
- Whether plumbing moves. Relocating a toilet, shower, or vanity even a few feet means rerouting pipes under the floor — one of the most expensive single changes in a small room.
- Tile. Labor to install tile (not the tile itself) is often the biggest line item, and it scales with how much of the room gets covered.
- Waterproofing. A shower that isn’t waterproofed correctly causes damage that costs far more to fix later than it would have to do right the first time — not a place to cut corners, and not optional.
- Which bathroom. A primary bathroom with a larger footprint and double vanity costs more than a small guest or half bath, even at the same finish level.
- Custom vs. off-the-shelf fixtures and vanities. Stock fixtures from a supply house and fully custom millwork can differ by tens of thousands on a single bathroom.
Why the range matters more than one number
A 40-square-foot powder room and a 120-square-foot primary bath with a soaking tub are both “a bathroom remodel,” and no generic guide can tell you which one yours is. The real number comes from a contractor who’s actually seen your space — which is the reason to compare a few before deciding on any of them.
